RE: Diamond Foods DMND- Could DMND be Acquired by Kellogg

Kettle’s sustainability mission has become foundational to the Diamond’s Foods sustainability activities. The company is learning from the sustainability insights from Kettle and utilizing (those) across the company. We don’t see any foreseeable changes to that mission,” he said. While the mission continues, it does so amid speculation that Diamond could be acquired by Kellogg. While Sibert said the company does not comment on speculation about financial matters, industry observers have buzzed about a possible Kellogg move on Diamond after Kellogg bested Diamond in a contest for Proctor & Gamble’s Pringles.

The collapse of Diamond’s Pringles bid was part fallout from an SEC investigation into mismanaged payments to walnut growers. As Kellogg looks to move from cereals into snacks and made a key acquisition with Pringles, CEO John Bryant told Reuters that Diamond is "clearly a fit in the portfolio” as the company expands its snack food holdings.

Should Diamond, and thus Kettle, be swallowed by Kellogg, its environmental mission could live on.

“I think there’s a propensity for people to assume that when a larger company buys a smaller, a niche one, if you will, that has a culture of what we now call ‘sustainability’ and ‘triple bottom lines,’ the common assumption is that it will be eroded,” said Exo. “I think there was a time that was more true than it is today.”
