Most people on earth have not developed their minds enough to think abstractly enough. Most don't even know one needs to do that ....
This is probably one of the chief reasons why the latest manifestations of God being depicted as having infinite mercy & men desperately clinging to the idea that they are within reach of some superior positioning afforded by & thru this loving compassionate Being . There is some hope of integration with this higher power & the cherished idea of man having a "soul" which if protected by blind bling faith , rituals , offerings & certain deeds, leads to some final uniting "elsewhere" in perfect liberation .
Of course the sense that a God must be a merciful being must take precident over all other things given the hopeless reality you mention above . Which is a fate that the most brilliant scholars like Descarte have argued extensively against Man a Machine materialism vs souless animal but think rather vainly in their attempt to make much of a distinction really . WE are animals take it or leave it , it remains the truth, Descarte missed that boat again with wishful thinking & theologians to impress .
If there is one sin above all is to view ourselves that much higher than our next cousin on the evolutionary tree and as wise old Solomon said "All the rest is vanities kids " . For centuries theologians have made great fuss about the "human soul" & the more i ponder this idea of original sin it revolves around the fact that most of us don't really have much soul to speak of , born out of this follows the great rituals & displays for vain pretense .
Probably those few that have developed great integrated genius are aware of the machinery we are in reality , this is something they adapt to & makes them more efficient in cataloging ideas where for the bulk of the rest of humanity there is only those chaotic haunting hints of fearful ghosts in the machine , for we all our predominately still materially centered & mechanistically composed . ( seen in zealous nationalism & fundmentalism)
My God how i worship thee for my salvation , salvation from being a machine ... nothing gets the believers more riled up than to suggest this materialist philosophy & they are so brilliant in their displays against it , yet the more i see this the more the digitized atomic structure of nature seems to prove true in everything we see including "US" .
(but even a machine can learn to follow a bliss of sorts , seek better integration & harmonious working of parts ) |
