You are right, MACROMEDIA did apparently bought a newspaper group.
Read the following:
"Macromedia Buys 12 N.J. Papers

AP Online, Friday, November 21, 1997 at 14:26

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Macromedia Inc., parent company of The
Record of Hackensack, is purchasing the daily North Jersey Herald &
News of Passaic and 11 weeklies in northern New Jersey from a
subsidiary of Denver-based MediaNews Inc. group. No sales price was
disclosed.
All the newspapers will continue to operate independently,
although some administrative functions of the two dailies may be
combined, said Jonathan Markey, president of The Record.
The Record and the Herald & News serve parts of Bergen and
Passaic counties, but Markey said there is little overlap. The
Herald & News has a daily circulation of about 54,000 and Sunday
sales of about 40,000. The Record has a daily circulation of
151,000 and Sunday circulation of 210,000.
The deal is expected to be completed in the first week of
December, Macromedia said Thursday.
All the papers being purchased are part of North Jersey
Newspapers Co., a subsidiary of MediaNews Inc. group. North Jersey
Newspapers will retain 10 other weeklies it operates in the area.
The deal marks the second shift in recent months in newspaper
ownership in New Jersey. Last summer Gannett Co. Inc. purchased the
family-owned Asbury Park Press and The Home News & Tribune, the
state's second- and sixth-largest dailies. Gannett also owns three
other dailies in the state."

Curious but apparently true. Will probably know more later in the week.

The good news is the buy recommendation by Seidler Cos.
