Even apple would lose out with such a device in reduced margins, lower larger iPad sales etc.
I totally agree with you. Why fix something that is not broken. Leave a little room for the competition to keep the feds out of the way. Over time, I strongly feel that just like iPods the competition will fade away.

Today's 2-3 year olds using the iPad will stick with Apple products all their life. That is the key to Apple's success.
