Shorting any high flier, especially one that has a heavy short position is a recipe for the greatest loss ever theory.
Just look at Whitney Tilson who is a pretty sophisticated and usually "right on" short seller.

Whitney Tilson and Glenn Tongue's hedge fund T2 Partners covered their major short of Netflix (NFLX) last February, almost at it's high. They ultimately would have made a bundle, but no one is immune from short squeeze after short squeeze. My guess and hope is that Chanos has a super small position, and is hoping he can goose it higher before taking a decent sized position.
