There is a very thin line between communism, progressivism, Marxism, Socialism ... it's about nationalizing production, it's about creating and expanding the welfare state. It's about this idea of social and economic justice," said the retired military officer.

Of course the line is thin.... It's a matter of degrees and versions of the same idea. Just look at the debt crisis which is contorting large parts of the world - it's happening because socialist Robyn Hoods are running out of other people's money.

"hard" Soviet style socialism went belly up 20 years ago. Now, it is the turn for its softer, Western incarnation.
