Geoffrey--even in the Taranaki Basin the cost of a well can vary depending on the debth, rig avalibility and mobalization cost. I am told the recent Fletcher Challange Energy (I know the General Manager), Mangahewa well (which was a deep well) cost around US$5 Million plus US$1.5 to complete the well.

Prior to day rates skyrocketing this may have cost around US$3.5 Million.

The shallower Mt.Messenger formation in the Taranaki would be around the US$1.5 (dry hole costs) plus $.7 Million to complete.

Why don't you do some DD
