A STAR IS BORN H/T Simplicity

Mia Love won the Utah GOP state convention vote last night with 70% of the vote. That means there will be no primary and she is now the official nominee to oppose Rep. Jim Matheson (D) for the Iowa 4th district congressional seat. She is already defeating the incumbent in the polls, and this race is one of the top five national pickup opportunities for the GOP.

Love is the Mayor of Sarasota Springs and she soundly defeated former state representative Carl Wimmer at last night's convention even though Wimmer had an impressive campaign and the support of some important state leaders. Love, a staunch conservative, has run Sarasota Springs impressively, providing all necessary services while keeping the city's budget and taxes in line.

Love has already won support from national GOP leaders. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI), the leading budget hawk, all gave money to Love early in her campaign.

She is the daughter of Haitian immigrants and, if elected, would be the only black republican woman in congress.

Impressive two-minute video by a rising Republican star:
