Not necessarily. As you said, the purpose was to study vascular deaths so it may simply a matter of staying on message. OTOH, if the study had an agenda, such as the support of the use of statins, the omission may be intentional because deaths from other causes might qualify the reported outcomes. Perhaps the full study report addresses the question.
