Just a minor correction (quote is from the post you linked) - I think the author means "the majority of all swaps". I agree with the author that far too much is made of notional swap amounts, including fear-mongering, and I believe he / she is quite correct that interest rate swaps comprise the majority. However the term 'credit default swap' is commonly taken to refer to a contract where payout is triggered by the default of a specific entity, unlike an interest rate (or FX etc) swap.
