The ferry from Cape May NJ to Lewes Delaware started in 1964 and brought over quite a few varieties of mosquitoes to Jersey. We have an invasive one called the Asian Tiger, very aggressive. With the very mild winter we had, their eggs would not have been killed off, so they pose quite a threat this year.

NJ has a Mosquito Commission established in 1956 as part of the dept of environmental protection. My uncle worked for them for about 20 years. One story that made it my way was about an agent walking through the woods/marsh area near the Delaware Bay in southern Jersey doing a mosquito count, came upon mosquitoes so thick it put him in a state of panic because he could barely breathe.
