I'm recommending they not suspend reality because of political correctness and recognize that the probability they will be a victim of a crime is higher than if the guy is a middle aged man, dressed in a suit, that they already know from the neighborhood, and then behave accordingly - which means defensive.

If I was talking to a cab driver I'd recommend not picking him up. If legally required to do so, I'd tell him to get a new job.

The stats are what they are.

If I was talking to a black man and the stats for getting beat up by some white guys in some small red neck town in Alabama were higher than normal, I'd advise him not to go there.

There is no reason for a person or society to not use statistics to help prevent crime - especially against yourself. .
