A couple of possible turnarund ideas? the first may not exactly be a turnarund, but close. MDP had a bad quarter and has a lot of print media, which of course may be going the way of the horse and buggy. Decent dividend (over 5%) and a history of increasing same each year (although last increase was larger than normal, so i expect they may hold it at its current level for a couple of years rather than increasing it). they have some TV stations and recently acquired an internet recipe company. i suspect they need acquisitions to offset declines in print media if they wish to grow. they have several obscure publications. i have heard of a couple of them, but not familiar with them -- things like ladies home journal and better homes and gardens i think are owned by them. the second is definitely in the turnarund or die category -- ALU. i initiated a starter position this morning. could not find the earnings release yet, so need to look at that a bit more. underlying business is struggling, although they turned a profit by selling a sub this quarter.
