Been thinking a bit more about the appeal of legacy desktop support... When comparing Windows 8 tablets vs. Windows RT tablets, I would consider legacy support to be an advantage, albeit not a huge one. And that's assuming all other things are equal (price, battery life, form factor). Of course, along with the advantages of traditional Windows comes complexity, and I won't list the disadvantages here.

At the end of the day, you probably want both a decent laptop and an iPad.
