4/27/12 Contest Update
An Apple a day keeps the Bears at bay! That certainly seemed the case as Apple’s smashing earnings boosted investors’ morale. And another biotech buyout offer, this time for RDEA, provided an additional kick for the sector.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 22.22% YTD (vs. up 17.44% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 20.67% YTD (vs. up 16.78% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 17.81% YTD (vs. up 15.17% YTD a week ago).
My reign as Contest leader lasted a mere two weeks as BIOJIM’s portfolio, up 52.58% YTD, jumped back into first place. DON’s portfolio, up 52.00% YTD, was just a tad behind in second place and my own portfolio, up 44.31% YTD, hit by two stocks in the week’s bottom 5 losers (IDRA & POZN), fell back to third place.
At Friday's close, just 1 of the 38 Contest portfolios was in the red and 24 of the 38 portfolios were beating the NBI.
