It said that a dumbed down iPad wouldn't deliver the same experience, even if it hit a lower price point.

The iPad 2 delivers essentially the same experience as the new iPad, albeit with a lower resolution screen, somewhat slower graphics subsystem, and not as good a camera. The Kindle doesn't come close, really.

IMO, my original iPad delivers essentially the same experience as would a 7" version. The vast majority of the "iPad experience" is due to iOS, the apps, and the performance of the touchscreen.
