Hello Everyone,
I am feeling a bit melancholy today for a whole lot of reasons.
Today is my 28th wedding anniversary...........We should have had a party to celebrate our 28th on the 28th. Dang shame I did not think of that sooner. Must have been too busy helping my husband recover from quadruple bypass surgery 6 weeks ago.
The most exciting thing that happened today.......(which is why I choose to post on this thread) has to do with my oldest son.
We got up bright and early this morning....to head off to the University that my son Michael attends. This morning he was presenting his senior project in Mechanical Engineering Technology!!! His project was entitled " Develop Noise Control for One Inch Drill Bit to Reduce Underground Mining Noise." He and the rest of his team presented their project. I learned a few things about mining and drill bits. Other parts of his presentation he might as well have been speaking Greek, because those of us non-engineers, had no idea what they were talking about. One of the other things I learned today, as I watched my all grown up son, looking dapper in his suit and tie, is that........well he has grown up into a very fine young man. Next Friday a new chapter of his life will start, when he receives his degree. This is my son, who when he was in middle school, at teacher who did not like him much, told him in front of the class he would be lucky if he ever finished high school. She made a similar comment to me at a parent/teacher conference. I have to say, I took real twisted pleasure in sending a graduation announcement to her at that elementary school. I resisted the temptation to include a note to her telling her that Michael finished his degree in 4 years, and already has his name on a patent. Needless to say, his first job offers have him making more money his first year out of school, than she makes. (I do think teachers are underpaid, but that is different conversation.) Michael has his name on a patent for work he did as part of a fellowship. He worked on the development of a Seismic Isolator. He also was part of a design team that worked on the door latches for the new Ford Mustangs. The door latches are currently being used in the production of new Mustangs!
Needless to say, I am pretty proud of my son!!
(JXM, I thought of you today when he was talking about mine safety. Are you still working in that area??) |
