IC Insights: Cellphone Revenue in 2009, 2010 and 2011 >> Samsung Leads Nokia In Cellphone Revenue Ranking Peter Clarke (London) EE Times 4/30/2012 Samsung's cellphone sales revenue jumped 47 percent to $48.2 billion in 2011 making the company the leading mobile phone company by revenue, according to IC Insights. However, Nokia retained the number one position when ranked by units shipped as its sales revenue dropped by 14 percent to $33.3 billion the market research firm said. The table [above] shows the top ten cell phone suppliers ranked by unit shipments in 2011 but with sales and shipments supplied for 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2011 a 12 percent increase in units shipped to 1.6 billion drove a 28 percent increase in revenue to $195.3 billion as mobile phone ASPs went up with the adoption of smartphones. The "other" category outperformed the top ten as units shipped climbed 34 percent and value shipped went up 52 percent. Other cellular phone suppliers shipped 381 million units or 24 percent of cellphone handsets in 2011 but about half of these, worth about $8 billion, were counterfeit handsets, according to IC Insights. The figure below shows that IC Insights is forecasting that the market will expand by 11 percent in terms of units to 1.77 billion in 2012. ### - Eric -
