Obama is making a huge mistake. But I don't think that his purpose in politicizing OBL is as clear as it should be. IMO it is to disguise the fact that Afghanistan is in many respects his war. And his failure. He is concerned that Romney might make an issue of it as O! was explicitly in favor of it during his first campaign.

I don't think Romney will do so despite the fact that Afghanistan is a potentially huge liability for Obama. Thus O is drawing attention to a nonexistent problem.

The real problem is that imo very few voters think any president would have acted any differently. Thus, no great achievement. Voters will feel patronized.

It's a stupid tactic, one which could make Afghanistan obama's war, not someone else's mess he had to clean up.

And that is why he went to Afghanistan. And why, after four years, he's finally getting around to it.
