importantly, in a breakthrough product made only possible by Liquidmetal

Not likely IMHO.

I think Apple did make the first laptops. But in general what Apple does is improve existing tech.

They didn't make the first personal computers.
They didn't make the first desktop UI.
They didn't make the first smartphones.
They didn't even make the first tablet computers... well you might classify the newton as a tablet but I think there were probably others before it.

If you look at the evolution of Mac its been pretty conservative:

All in one plastic > formed metal (Jobs lost power or was gone > Polycarbonate better than plastic or metal > Machined aluminum better than polycarbonate

Slow evolution based on cold clear logical design principals.

Apple is actually a pretty conservative company. They IMPROVE things radically. A touch screen phone was the only logical way to go on a phone. Its really a computer with phone capability and the Achilles heel was screen space, so it was a no brainer that they bought a touch screen software company then made a touch screen phone with a bigger screen than anyone else.

I think Allen and have been on this thread longer than anyone. Can't remember. Roadie has been here a long time too.
