Intel Reorganizes To Serve Marketplace Segmentation
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 24, 1997 -- Intel Corporation has reorganized some of its internal organizations to match segmentation trends in the marketplace, the company announced today. Four new groups have been created: the Consumer Products Group, the Business Platform Group, the Small Business and Networking Group, and the Digital Imaging and Video Division. These organizational changes are effective immediately.
"The personal computer industry is large and growing rapidly. As a result, the industry is splitting up into large segments. We plan to differentiate our products to serve these segments. This organizational adjustment allows us to address multiple market segments more efficiently," said Craig Barrett, president and chief operating officer, Intel Corporation.
Under the new structure, Intel's former Desktop Products Group will split into the Consumer Products Group (CPG) headed by vice president Mike Aymar, and the Business Platform Group (BPG), headed by vice president Pat Gelsinger. CPG will target consumer desktop PCs, TV set top computing devices, and automobile PCs. BPG will focus on all business computers (including PCs), network computers, NetPCs, workstations, and data security solutions for personal computers.
Intel's former Internet and Communications Group will also split into two separate organizations. Executive vice president Frank Gill will lead the Small Business and Networking Group (SBNG) which will include networking products, management software, business communications (ProSharer video conferencing technology), reseller products, Internet Services Operations, and the reseller channel sales organization. Vice president Craig Kinnie will head up the Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) which will continue to develop technologies for emerging platforms and applications technologies.
Intel's Computing Enhancement Group (CEG) continues under vice president Ron J. Smith's leadership. CEG will continue to focus on peripheral silicon solutions associated with the PC, and our communications business (flash memory, embedded control, universal serial bus, and intelligent I/O), with additional responsibilities for chip sets and graphics controllers.
Lastly, a new division (Digital Imaging and Video Division), will be formed to focus on the emerging fields of digital imaging and video associated with the PC and stand-alone digital cameras. This division will be run by Don Whiteside.
Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of personal computer, networking and communications products. Additional information is available at (SOURCE) www.intel.com/pressroom.
