I'm sure there are some forced into retirement, but here's the actual BLS stats on how the 65+ group has grown:



In other words, the crud about participation rate dropping because more are retiring is just plain BS and bad/false PR.

As far as real total unemployed, the BLS stops counting them if they're unemployed for 1-2 years - and that's the basic difference between the BLS U6 most complete unemployment measure (currently at 14.5%) and my U7 reconstruction (currently at 21.7%).
