political left ... using ... movies ..... TV ..... audience members get so wrapped up in the images, characters, and action that they don't stop to think about the huge dose of political propaganda being served on the side .... The political right, on the other hand, completely dominates the emotionally cooler medium of talk radio, where words alone have to carry the message
The Left doesn't have too many "cogent" arguments. The Left is about "fairness", about replacing charity with forced redistribution, etc. It is about the people's concern about being pushed around by the archetypal bad guy called "Da Man" - the rich and powerful individual who is able, and often willing, to be unfair and abusive. Even for people who never had negative experiences with "Da Man" - the image is strong.
What is being missed, is that Big Governments - while "nominally" offering some protection against "Da Man" - are actually the same thing, only worse. You can walk away from Da Man, but there is no escaping from the power of the government.
Even large corporate structures, which, while psychologically having many features in common with government, are not nearly as bad -- because they can fire you, but can't throw you in prison. |
