Yahweh was so great and good! In Deuteronomy we learn that if people in a city wish to surrender to the Israelites they will be allowed to live as slaves. Otherwise, all the people of every age in every city will be butchered. But here was the beautiful part! Yahweh expressly forebade them to hurt a tree! Yep! Kill the babies but do not harm the trees! Deuteronomy 20:19 "...Do not cut them down. Are the trees people, that you should besiege them?" Jesus apparently was not listening, because many centuries later he goes completely nuts against a fig tree... Yikes! What a crazy guy!
