Noble Drilling Rig Contracts

HOUSTON -- Noble Drilling Corp. said it signed letters of intent for two
drilling rig contracts, one with a unit of Shell Oil Co. and the other with
Amerada Hess Corp. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

The energy-services company said both rigs will be capable of drilling in
water depths of up to 6,000 feet, with one slated for delivery by the first
quarter of 1999 and the other by the third quarter of 1999.

Shell Oil is a unit of Royal Dutch/Shell Group, an Anglo-Dutch petroleum
company.
