I think it is important to acknowledge the tiny amounts of truth big lies get wrapped around so that the true and the false are not so easily conflated by those big lies. So I acknowledge that some people who join "causes" or "religions" or political movements are indeed whackos--and mindless followers and attention whores. These fringe groups, however, are unfairly targeted by bigots in order to denigrate everyone and everything in any way associated with those groups. They do this to feel superior and to belong to a "cause" which gives them meaning. Sad they must get their meaning from what they hate rather than from what they value.
