I always thought color alert was a good warning system.

The color-coded system taught Americans to be scared, not prepared. What it did do is make us aware that there is a threat. It also provided cover for a huge expansion of government.

These are two of the thoughts most Americans have not yet had, much less reconciled.
What actions do you and your family take when the alert color is changed from Green to Amber?
What actions will you and your family take when the alert color is changed from Amber to Red?
If the answer is nothing, or I don't know, the old color code and any of the other alert codes in use today were and are useless to you and your family.

Three things to consider:
1. In a sudden conflict or emergency anything you do can get you hurt including doing nothing.
2. The US Govt does not respond quickly to large emergencies involving very large numbers of people.
3. The most effective emergency preparations are done in advance. Neither the govt nor individuals can prepare efficiently or effectively for a sudden emergency after the emergency is underway.

Preparation to me means making plans in advance and taking actions in advance to to be self sufficient for an appropriate period of time. Though we continue to address the subject, my family is comfortable with our emergency preparations. We don't care what the color code is and never did.
