Each BDC is different and should be evaluated on its own. There were some earlier posts on how to evaluate a BDC on this thread.

A friend of mine uses mostly Vanguard funds for setting up asset allocation similar to Yale's. There are certainly other methods. Here are two ideas that I found doing a search.

Clear Rock Capital uses an ETF strategy.
