Collapse of the financial system seems inevitable to me. Globally and collectively - with America in the lead - we've dug the hole too deep to escape. Banks successfully lobbied to get deregulated and now speculate with depositors money in outrageously greedy schemes, putting every citizen at risk. MF Global was just the tip of the iceberg. Those pigeons they let loose have to come in to roost. We just don't know when.

Have you ever seen that NatGeo program called Doomsday Preppers? Some of them prep for financial collapse, others for events like the bird flu, global oil crisis, or an EMP. One prepper got his community involved from the mayor on down to make preparations for the grid going down, (for which I credit him for thinking of more than just himself and his own for the disaster he is fixated on).

I think the best prep is having a trade or skill to barter and things to swap because even if money collapses, people can survive as long as resources are available. It'll just be harder and take longer. People in Greece have taken to bartering. As clumsy as that system seems, people can survive on it. People here with yards or acreage should plant gardens, especially of things that can be canned. In WW2, our citizens planted victory gardens and endured severe rationing and recycling of needed war materials.
