Have you not been reading this board and all the advancements of the Apple ecosystem and the iEverythings?
Hehe, therein lies some of my issue to begin with. I'm not a fan of the "iOSing" of everything in OS X. As best I can tell, ALL of the major changes in Mountain Lion are things borrowed from iOS.
if you can afford a Apple desktop/laptop, you can afford to upgrade to Lion - $30!
Cost is not the issue to me, backward compatibility is. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur, but I think Apple could do a much better job of supporting older versions of OS X and the compatibility we love. What is the reason Apple killed Power PC compatibility with Lion? I think the answer is to push hardware sales, not because it is best for the Apple consumer. As a shareholder I like that, as a user of Apple's computers, I don't like it at all.
Bloat - what the hell do you own? I have a seven year old iMac with the Lion upgrade and it's not any more slow than before the upgrade.
I own a Mid 2011 iMac, bought it last June with Snow Leopard on it. I find it hard to believe you have a seven year old iMac and it runs Lion well -- or are you being facetious? An iMac of that age is one of the first Intel iMacs and they stopped out at Snow Leopard 10.6.8, not to mention they can use a maximum of 2.0 GB of RAM. In any case, can you tell me the exact model of iMac you have? I'd love to know the specs.
I also have a year old iMac and it is unphased by any upgrade. You may want to consider adding more RAM to your rig.
I have 16 GB of glorious RAM in this beast, so it is not the issue. I'm a speed freak, and little things like the speed with which windows open and populate the file list gnaw on me. I want it fast, fast, FAST!
and you may even protect yourself from Lahcim's cruel metaphors and be able to virtually dry yourself off!
I've found there is no protection from Lahcim's cruel metaphors. It is the price we pay for his notable contributions to this thread (and others). :-) |
