Barry, the fact that the US dollar is the world's reserve currency has enabled us to run a perenial current account deficit that would have destroyed any other currency. The US gov't and the bulls would like to think this can continue indefinitely, it cannot. The carry trade and foreign central bank purchase of US bonds have been major factors in the bull mkt in bonds. How long will foreigners be willing to subsidize our standard of living? The major factor in our lower budget deficit has been capital gains from the stk mkt. Even if the bull continues it will not maintain the rapid rate of appreciation which we have enjoyed. The conventional thinking is that Japan and SE Asia will not sell their bonds;I disagree. The following articles explain,in part, why I have this view. gold-eagle.com (two parts) gold-eagle.com Mike
