Stockroach - Even with the book value, I'd be cautious in buying S3 for a while. Fourth quarter numbers are anticipated to be very weak, 1Q98 will be weaker still, and as you've stated the new product pipeline is not anywhere close to reality at this stage.

Under GJ, S3 has been slow to market with all of its products. SonicVibes is an excellent example of the consequences of not getting the product to the consumer. Competitors had the opportunity to catch up and they did. Inferior products such as GX/2 had no chance at all. The audio market responded to SonicVibes, the graphics market will likewise respond to Faroudja-based techology. They've got at least nine months to work on it.

With the convergence of peripherals towards a single chip, decreasing PC prices, and intense competition, one has to place their money with management first and technology second. Under GJ, S3 simply has lost every battle with competitors ranging from audio, desktop video, and laptop video. S3 will be discounted until they prove they can compete effectively again. To paraphrase the words of S3 management, don't expect much until at least 3Q98.

Mark.
