Thanks for noticing the 30 vs. 40 year mistake.

During the last few years the growth in government expenditures was terrible. But even before, during a succession of more benign administrations, the trend was becoming parabolic and clearly unsustainable. We were heading for trouble. We still are - I just hope that a competent manager like Romney will make fewer wild mistakes than the current guy.

When all is said and done, the biggest growth was in the so called entitlements. They reflect, for the most part, intergenerational wealth transfer arrangements. I'm becoming convinced that the very idea may be faulty. Took a stab at it in this post:

I'm beginning to suspect that ALL such deals are dangerous. Sooner or later you'll have a generation which will get abandoned, as the deal proves unsustainable. We baby boomers are at risk of becoming such a generation.
