Tom,

Another thing to consider is this: What do Sony and TEAC have in common? Very strong ties with the 3 1/2" disk and various tapes. They would take a major hit if their older products went away.

To me, it sounds more like a last-ditch effort, acknowledging the threat that Iomega places on older storage products.
