Not sure if this answers your question, but according to Terayon, while theoritcal throughput is 14 MB per channel, overhead (i.e. forward error correction) reduces actual throughput to just over 8 MB per channel. The product is scalable in that maximum customer throughput speeds (up to 8 MB) can be set by the operator.

Also, there has been mention of Cisco testing of the Terayon product. As I understand it, Cisco provided seed capital to Terayon, and currently owns 8% of the company.

It seems to me that the discussion of Terayon and other competing technologies is important for @Home since they may mitigate (though not eliminate) the need for system upgrades, which in turn will allow for faster modem roll outs. For example, Terayon claims to be operating on an all coax plant in Japan with amplifier cascades over 30 deep. Therefore, I would suggest that we not move this discussion to another thread, but keep kicking it around here.
