My aging arch lifelong republican sibling was anti union,

Then one day he lost his small business in a consolidating, changing industry he could not recognize and adjust to.

Until he was unemployed for eight miserable years and then at 60 years old found a good job with California government.... in a UNION.

It has saved his self-esteem, as the health care benefits saved him physically. And trust me, he never met a benefit he didn't like, including religious holidays he NEVER took off (or gave off) when he had his own business.

He is still a Rush Limbaugh lover and thinks every other union is evil especially teachers and nurses. And he keeps his mouth shut when other wing nuts snark about incompetent state employees.
