<What they are buying from reputable companies is quality. Service and support have become less important. You need very little service and support if you buy a product that has been carefully designed, manufactured and packaged.>

I beg to differ from your differ. I am afraid you are confusing computers with attractively packaged women's tampons. Computerization is not about dancing in bunny suits. When people say "service/support" in computer industry, they usually mean installation, configuration, reliable connectivity, software compatibility, flawless software/hardware upgrades, and 24-hours part replacement policies.

As far as "quality" concerns, all systems are built from more or less the same components. And all monitors are built in Japan, hard drives in Thailand/Singapore, Video cards in Canada, and motherboatds are manufactured in Taiwan. Please excuse me for this little exageration.
