5/11/12 Contest Update
Biotechs managed to spin out of the broad market’s doldrums by getting caught up in Vertex’s positive vortex. And a nice move by XNPT, held in 10 Contest portfolios, gave an extra boost to the Contest median.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 21.56% YTD (vs. up 16.96% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 21.09% YTD (vs. up 16.62% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.62% YTD (vs. up 13.48% YTD a week ago).
BIOJIM’s portfolio, up 50.35% YTD, remained the Contest leader, while DON’s portfolio, up 43.79% YTD, moved back to second place and my own portfolio, up 41.32% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 4 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the red and 20 of the 38 portfolios were beating the NBI.
