| Companies are wary of hiring. They've got money, and they need to expand- but job billets are going unfilled because of hiring freezes. Ask anyone who is working- many people are now covering the jobs of 3 or 4 people. And companies, though they are raking in the dough, are doing some sloppy work that will catch up with them later, because they are pushing current employees so hard. Either there will be another dip, and the companies will feel vindicated in putting off new hires, or, we'll see an explosion in hiring once companies because more sure of the economic recovery. I wish I could dust off my crystal ball for you, and tell you which will happen- but some of this is just luck- how the pieces shake out around the globe- and some of it is down to politics. And I have to say, I cannot understand the folks in Washington. The reps, for example, seem pretty chipper about sabotaging the economy- in fact, if you listen to them, they're hoping for a crap economy. So with part of our country actually hoping for a bad economy and working against a recovery, it's hard to predict what that will do to the situation. |
