We have the same demographic problems that the Japanese have. We have the Baby Boomers and we don't have any echo boom coming to replace them. We did have a vibrant immigration into this country, but thanks to xenophobic Republicans, the Mexicans have now stopped coming here. Read the latest news which shows that net new Mexican immigrants has now gone negative for the first time in decades.

We do not have the same problem. Growth has slowed due to the recession but we are still experiencing population increase. Japan is experiencing population contraction...........Japan's population is getting smaller.

Here in Seattle the city is having to open elementary schools it mothballed just 7 years ago.

So the one thing that could save this country was immigration, but we can't count on that anymore. As for our economy, it is stagnating. We're having to rely on every larger injections of QE from the Fed and an ongoing $1.5 Trillion per year deficit to maintain enough stimulus into our economy to keep it treading slightly above zero growth. We're already in our last months before we go into recession again.

So you and ECRI say. Will you light a candle for the US?

The US is becoming Japan in more ways than one. Japan has tried every move we're making over the last 20 years. And we're now doing those same things and hoping for a different result than Japan. According to Einstein, that is the very definition of insanity.

Japan never addressed its bank problem like we did. Do you know how many banks were shuttered in the US over the past 4 years.........thousands. You can count on two hands how many banks have closed in Japan over the past 2 decades. That's just one more example of how different Japan and the US are.
