David: You said:"sales are down" WRONG!

Sales are not down. Revenue may be down but only due to lower pricing on some upgrades (rem. we are about to ship a new release). The fact is - Novell is selling 20% more NetWare in 1996 than it did in 1995. Look at the facts below and please explain how you are growing YOUR business by selling NT.

Facts:

NetWare (revenue) outsold NT Server by 154%! (source IDC, Q196 sales)

NetWare (servers) outsold NT (servers) by 170%! (SOE market, same source) (SOE:Server Operating Environment)

NetWare (servers) outsold NT (servers) by 254%! (NOS market, same source) (NOS:network operating systems)

All,

Different analysts (Gartner, Forester, IDC) have made estimates about the total cost of networking. The server OS is considered to be 3%-17% depending on whether soft costs (HR) are included. Talk to most any reseller and they'll give you the reality; it's the entire package (HW, SW, Services) that they make money on. Please, someone show me a reseller that's made $1 on selling NT software and I'll show you a ..... (David, do you know where I can get a good eight track tape player?)
