Blowups occur with regularity every 3- 5 years. If you cent predict the next one, then you need to have enough on the sidelines to take advantage or be protected.

This needs to be weighed against the opportunity cost of not being invested. That being said, having dry powder at the ready is needed for the panics which seem to come every few months these days.

AA is a good company in a really lousy industry. The industry trumps the company at this point in the economic cycle, but AA is an easy double if the industry improves along with the world economy. Unfortunately, the world economy has a lot of problems which may get worse.
