An interesting report on the limitations of Rambus DRAM and the real reason for Intel support of Rambus technology
techstocks.com
Says that Rambus is a higher speed interface superimposed on a DRAM core, and that it does nothing to speed up SRAM access time, offering only a faster path into the still slow DRAM core. Intel may be mainly interested in it because it wants to put pressure on DRAM makers in general to upgrade their products at a faster rate.
If what I interpret from this post is correct, no matter what happens, memory speed will continue to be a key factor holding back system performance.
