Good question. Most likely these are results from a backtesting program, with parameters tweaked to optimize returns. Not sure if all approvals of publicly traded companies were used. There's definitely potential for selection bias here, as an investor has to judge what approvals are going to move the share price much.

edit: if you clink the link the original article (the one I cited is an update), it notes it is not forward tested. Also notes that getting the opening & closing price may not be possible in practice. See:
