Here's something I got today that I found to be really bizarre. In the world of genetic genealogy, www.FamilyTreeDNA.com is far and away the leader. Ancestry has been trying to get into it, but their first entry into it with Y-DNA testing was a flop compared with what FTDNA has done. Today I got this e-mail from Archives, which is being acquired by Ancestry, promoting DNA testing through the latter...

Dear Subscriber,

Where did your Smith family ancestors come from? And how did they get here? One of the most exciting ways to answer this question is through
DNA testing:

Your DNA provides a unique window into your family history. And thanks to amazing advancements in genetic technology, it's now possible to use DNA testing to determine the links between the present and the past, including:

- Trace the migration path of Smith and other ancestors across the world and throughout history
- See detailed descriptions of your DNA markers and explanations for what they reveal about your family history
- Join a surname project to determine which Smith's you share a common lineage with
- Connect with living relatives to help fill in missing branches of the Smith family tree
