Kevin: I found out over the period of a few years of telling that story that it had much more profound impact if I told it like it had occurred in the past. That way, it sounds factual. Very few people ever questioned it. The fact that you questioned it indicates that you are acutely sensitive to the relative time frames ... you know ... now, and then.

You have to admit that the story sounds like it could happen. Not like those silly stories of planes falling out of the sky on New Year's eve. Everybody knows that the movie "Millennium" explained all those crashes away, and documented the fact that the people about to die were transferred to the future. Their bodies were, of course, replaced by dead bodies from the future. A totally plausible story. Better than the fall-out-of-the-sky airplane stories we tell these days, anyway.
