You kept repeating that blue states funded red states without qualifying how or what you meant by that. I took the statement at face value. At least we are in agreement now by what you meant by that--which I still think is an inaccurate way of describing what is happening with revenue flows. I think it was a rhetorical deception on your part to make it seem that blue states were more economically functional then red states. Which we know is a mixed bag in terms of having a balanced state budget.

Additionally, it doesn't speak to the fact that blue state California can't or won't, apparently, fund itself.

The point is CA's financial problems don't hurt anyone but Californians. However, MS's financial problems do hurt the rest of us.

OK--point for you. The stimulus did fund state budgets but that was a one time shot. Normally that's not part of a state's budget make up.

There are other ways the feds help states with their budgets......schools, medicaid, highways, airports etc.

What you say is true about how California got to where it is at, but this doesn't explain its inability to resolve the problem. It seems like the American version of the Greek tragedy about to happen unless a revenue raising agreement is reached between the Dems and Pubs.

See this is the problem.........no one likes taxes....me included. The Rs knew that and sold CA on the concept of reduced taxes. Once you give people a free ride they don't want to go back. That's what happened in CA.......now its become virtually impossible to raise taxes which is resulting in the slow starvation of the state. There is nothing worse than watching the slow cutback in services while the Rs keep screaming the poor are draining us dry. And sadly, the R mantra is becoming self fulfilling as the wealthier people leave the state because of all the cutbacks in services. This 30 year R odyssey has to stop.
