They include rising GOP stars and potential Romney ticket mates such as Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. McDonnell is using a week of statewide travel and a $400,000 television ad campaign to hail the state’s 2½-year turnaround. The national election is focused on a U.S. recovery that’s still frail four years after the worst financial downturn since the Great Depression. And Romney’s narrative portrays Obama as an unfit steward. But GOP governors in Oklahoma, Alabama and the swing states of Ohio and Virginia offer an upbeat assessment.
