I have no doubt they'll monetize the data they have on people. Basically when you sign up you give away your information to them for free.

So far they haven't done a very good job, and from my point of view they aren't as smart as google about monetizing data. They also fell into the engineer as designer trap (unlike Apple). Not a good sign. Kids are already leaving for other types of social sites. Its inevitable. My own use is minimal, I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. It hasn't benefitted me that much. There have been some negatives.

BUT the biggest thing about Facebook as an investment is they shrewdly waited so long to IPO. Face it, the venture caps and insiders own all but a pittance of this stock. They made sure the public float was tiny and so pushed up the price. I have to say it was the shrewdest IPO ever. You could have seen it coming if you watched "The Social Network." Zukerberg saw other start up founders loose money letting too many buy in and IPOing too early. He did not make that mistake.

The garage sale price for this stock is about $5, retail about $10. That's for a P/E about the same as Google at 20.

They had one killer idea. I do not expect another. They may add some value but its all over basically for this stock.
