While I was in Jakarta, I ran across a group of ex-pat pilots who were working there for local airlines.

Two of them were Nepalese, and I immediately mentioned a video I had seen of pilot's landing at Lukla airport, which is located at roughly 3000 meters and is only 500 meters long. And the video stated that pilots who landed there had to be specially certified.

Well, turns out that they were among those few who were certified to land there and they confirmed just how hair-raising it is to land there..

Btw, at the near end of that runway, is the mountain wall. There is no turning back once you make the approach.. And it's resulted in a number of crashes and deaths.

Those pilots are awesome!! And always loved buying them beer and hearing their stories.
